UPDATES UPDATES UPDATES

Well, Kagero has 13 shows in July.  We've had tremendous success with getting residencies, and we're getting some regular action out there in Brooklyn, Inwood, Jackson Heights, the Lower East Side, Hoboken, Bergen County and even down the Jersey Shore.  Soon, we're off to Bay Ridge!!  The Kazmovan is coming soon to a town near you...   Plus we just got out of the studio putting down 9 songs.  And we got t-shirts.  Hot.

So, yeah, been busy.

But although I havent posted any new photos into the gallery for awhile, I have been taking them.  And today I caught up a bit.  Check out the studio shots and the Mehanata dance shots.  Those Mehanata nights are frackin fun, folks.  Here's Kaz in the studio:

Thanks for a great year, Kageronians.  More songs coming!

RADIO IS ALIVE AND WELL

You all have to check this out.  There is a new radio station in NYC, and they are playing some neat-o indie tunes.  I'm still not sure how it works, but here is my limited understanding:  The radio station is KEXP out of Seattle, Washington.  But they come in on 91.5 FM here, part of Radio New York.  So from 6 - Noon every morning, you can hear a DJ that is broadcasting from a station in Brooklyn.  And they have some specialty shows as well.  And then at other times, it's different programming on 91.5, but you can still get the great music online, but I think that's coming from Seattle.  It's all extremely confusing, but  bottom line, when I listen to 91.5 FM from 6 - Noon here in NY, the play a bunch of NY bands, and talk about very cool NY shows.  Trying to get a little Japanese Gypsy Rock on there, so we'll see.  They play Sigur Ros, this crazy band from Iceland that I'm into now.

Here's a sample of the playlist from this morning:

JW'S BARFDAY BASH

Hey folks.  It's been awhile since I've done a blog entry, please forgive me.  Life has been hectic lately, what with the new studio album, and trying to get my gypsy on and all, but tonight it's all going on the back burner.  In fact, I'm at work right now, ignoring several projects while thinking of all of the Bulgarian beer waiting for me at Mehanata.  Maybe I'll stick to the tequila this evening.  Hmmm.  Decisions, decisions.  Oh, and it's Yuki's (belated) birthday too, so we have plenty of excuses to let it all hang out.  Rock on, my dear, dear Kageronians, I hope to see many of you tonight.  Woo to the hoo.  --JW

KAGERO RESIDENCY AT MEHANATA!

Guess who is the new house band for Mehanata for June?  M**F*** Kagero, that's who!  Thanks to all of you who came out the May 31st show.  It was killer and the club loved our music and our crowd that they asked us back every Thursday in the month of June.  Come out and have fun with us again, won't you?  It's nice to have a place where dancing and smiling is ecouraged.  We are there every Thursday this month, from 9 - 11pm.  Get there before 10:30 for no cover. -Rob Bass

TO THE STUDIO WE GO . . .

Oh, it's time to go . . . to the studio.  Can you believe it?  We are spending 6 days (May 28 - June 2) of tracking at The Looking Glass Studios in NYC, with producer Mario McNulty, who just won a Grammy for his work on Angelique Kidjo's Djin Djin album.  We are hoping to track 9 songs, but we'll see how it goes!  We will also be bringing in some special guests to help fatten up the recording with their mad skillz, like cellist Yoed Nir and trumpet player Emilio.  We'll then spend another 6 days in June to mix the tracks.  -Rob bass

PHOTOS, VIDEOS & A RINGTONE!

I just now uploaded one metric ton of digital photography.  Check out the Gallery.  Here's the big eagle from the Folk Art Musseum:

While I was on the internets, I also went kagero-hunting on youtube and came up with some interesting tidbits:

Early Rockinghorse
A Snippit of Promenade from Alphabet Lounge
Daddy at Cafe Vivaldi

And for those of you who have been wondering, the scientists at the lab have now revealed a new Kagero ringtone.  Other ringtones are in the works, in the meantime, please enjoy:
SINGAPORE "HI"

You may also have noticed a vast improvement to the website.  Our good friend Sarah (aka Chimpgrrl) has graciously given us mouseover audio powers. On our homepage, try mousing over the pronunciation of our bandname and you'll hear a random sampling of: "how to pronounce it", as realized by our very own Rick Superstar (Georgi's rrommate and Voice Talent).  Thank you Sarah and Rick!  Kagero continues to be a grassroots organization, and if you have any talents or skills and wish to contribute, please notify your local Kageronian Ambassador for an immediate and rewarding assignment.

NEW BIT 'O PRESS

A great big "HAZA" to Annie Wilner, who came out to our D'Antigua show and did an interview with the Kageronians.  She got her interview published in GO Brooklyn, and it hit the newstands April 5th, 2008.  You can check out the article online here:

HOT WIDEO ACTION

We played the Thunderdome in Cape May.  Well, they didnt really call it that, but the stage at the Boiler Room was actually pit of concrete -- the only thing missing was a cage of chicken wire and Tina Turner.   Y'all will be pleased to know that Kagero was warmly recieved by a discerning crowd, and an enthusiastic producer named Trevor video'd us and posted it on the YouTube. Thank you, Trevor!

We also met lots of fellow musicians and industry folk -- some of whom were at the Harrisburg deal.  All in all a good show.  Our opener, Bonita, felt especially good, in spite of the fact that Robbie and I showed up about 10 minutes before showtime.

Big fun tomorrow -- two major shows.  I'm very excited about playing at the American Folk Art Museum, designed by architects Tsien and Williams.  If you like design, you should check out the place. Plus, our deep blue Jersey friends from The Goldhawk, J Hill & Hartling, will be opening.  Love that guy's voice.  Later, we mosey across to Queens and play at D'Antigua for the second time, where we play a much longer, drunker set.  A good time will be had by all.  Then I get on a plane to Arizona for a good friend's wedding.  Like I said: big day.  So I better get to bed.  Later, Kageronians!

KAGERO HEARTS HARRISBURG

Good Lawdy Mama! Kagero had a great time in Harrisburg this past weekend at the Millenium Music Conference.  Not only did we get to talk to lots of "industry folk" but we also had a great show at SUBA on Friday night -- a wonderful restaurant with some of the best people in PA.  Special thanks to Quiqui (sp?), Monica, Chelsea (from Park Slope), Leloni and Rebecca, who had many a redbull that night.  Plus all those other people I forgot due to copious amounts of tequila -- like the guy who tried to steal my gypsy hat, and the dude with the tats.  Those tats were cool.  After we closed Suba, we closed ABC (Appalachian Brewing Company).  I don't remember the name of the last place we closed, but let me just say that it wasnt exactly an all-ages show that night. If you know what I mean.  We had some great fun, and met some truly wonderful human beings.  I hope Kagero makes it back to Harrisburg soon.  -- J.W.

BITTER IS BETTER

Tonight we've got a small but mighty set at the Bitter End.  I hope if any of you find yourselves in the Village around 11 o'clock, you'll stop in.  It's a full band; Georgi will be knockin' em out with the Thundersticks.

We're just about ready to hit the busy season here in Kageronia;  some future events include: a roadtrip to Harrisburg, expanding our Jersey circle of influence and laying down a new demo to capture some of the past six months of exploration through the garden of Japanese Gypsy delights.  That's going to happen real soon like.  Plus we're now every other Thursday (with occasional exceptions) at Cyn Lounge kicking it from 9 to 11.   I'm off to fiddle, now, and no, that's not a euphemism.  See you soon, Kageronaughts.   May your hashi be free of splinters.

GOLDHAWKIN'

So I'm at work, tired and uninspired, but here to do my duty for the man so's I can collect my monies.  But it's Friday, so I will soldier on after I write up this post.  Last night we played in Hoboken, home of baseball and Sinatra.  Those Jersey kids really know how to appreciate music -- even on a cold, sleety Thursday night.  And Dave, the sound guy and booker at the Goldhawk, knows his stuff.  We'll be back to the Goldhawk, no doubt.  The band that played before us was inspirational, too.  J. Hill and Hartling play stripped down roots blues and Americana.  Great freakin voice on that mother.  A foot stompin', shotgun shack wailin', Devil vs God kinda street preachin' good time.  Follow the link and check them out.  Did I mention he plays a mean harp?  Damn, son.  -- J.W.

RANDOM KAZ INTERVIEW BY CMT

CMT (Country Music Television) was doing random, Man in the Street interviews to see if any New Yorkers know who Kenny Chesney is.  Kaz happened to be in Washington Square Park, dressed as a gypsy, strumming his guitar.  Hilarity ensued.  You can watch it here. Kaz's selection is the third clip down, called "Village People", but they are all pretty funny.  I also discovered that there are a great deal of music videos you can watch at CMT.  I highly recommend "Insane" by Ace Frehley.  Great.  - Rob bass
